Winter has Come; A Game Of Thrones Season 7 Recap

The final season of Game of  Thrones is nearly here! If you have the dedication to rewatch all seven seasons before April 15th, then we applaud you. For anyone looking for a quick recap of season 7 before the final war rages, then this blog is for you. BEWARE, for the night is dark and full of spoilers! You have been warned!

Sibling Fallouts

At the defeat of the Targaryen fleet by Euron Greyjoy, Theon's unstable past comes back to haunt him. After witnessing the torture on the boats during the battle, Theon jumps into the water instead of attempting to rescue his sister, Yara. She is captured by Euron and brought to King's Landing as a gift for Cersei. Theon is unsure of his sister's fate until Euron brags about his prisoner during the parley at King's Landing. Theon wins back a bit of respect as he convinces the remaining Ironborn to join his rescue mission, mirroring what Yara had done to save him from Ramsey Bolton. Here's hoping for a happy sibling reunion in season 8!

A truce

Daenerys Targaryen has spent most of Season Seven getting reacquainted with her ancestral home, Dragonstone. The red priestess, Melisandre, convinces her to meet with Jon Snow to create an ally for the battle for the Iron Throne. Jon is preoccupied with White Walkers and the potential destruction of Westeros. Luckily for him, Dragonstone has enough Dragonglass to give his army a chance at defeating the White Walkers. Daenerys is convinced of the threat north of the wall and agrees to help. Snow rallies a group of fighters to head north of the wall and capture a wight (part of the Army of the Undead). This gives them proof to try to convince the Lannisters to agree on a truce between the warring Houses of Westeros. During the fighting, one of Deanery's dragons is killed by the Night King. Daenerys vows to join with Jon to kill the Night King. They attempt to organise a truce with Cersei during a Parley at King's Landing where they bring the captured wight as proof. The parley is unsuccessful and Cersei refuses to aid in the fight with the undead, declaring she will battle whoever emerges victorious. After a private chat with Tyrion, Cersei returns to the allies and agrees to send Lannister forces to fight the war in the north. However, when Jaime Lannister goes to her to discuss moving their armies to the north she dismisses him as being '˜the stupidest Lannister'. Revealing that she never intended on honouring her part of the bargain. Jaime leaves her to fight in the north, even though she is believed to be pregnant with his child.

A Long Awaited Journey

After the truce has been agreed, Jon finally starts to make his way back to Winterfell. Joined by Daenerys and Tyrion they board boats heading north. It is on this journey that Jon and Daenerys start their romantic relationship. Tyrion sees Jon going to Daenerys's cabin, cue all the conspiracy theories for Season 8: Targaryen babies, Tyrion betrayal, Bran as the Night King. It is Game of Thrones, anything could happen. Although let's be honest, Arya and Jon's reunion are what we are all waiting for!

Keep your friends close, but your family closer

As Jon and Daenerys's alliance and personal relationship continues to grow,Bran Stark reveals to Samwell Tarlythat Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Making him Daenerys's nephew. It is then revealed that Rhaegar had his marriage to Elia Martell annulled before marrying Lyanna, making Jon a legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen. This season cliff-hanger means that Jon is actually the true heir to the throne, ahead of Daenerys. And just after he agreed to bend the knee! This should make for an interesting arrival scene at Winterfell at the start of season 8.

Winter Has Come

Who can forget the final scene when a transformed Viseron sprays blue fire everywhere, destroying the wall. The army of the undead then make their way through into the Seven Kingdoms and the long wait for Season 8 began. We are still reeling from the final overhead shot of the dead apparently walking in the shape of a direwolfs head!
